Security Message from the U.S. Embassy
Travel in tourist areas of Barbados, previously affected by armed robberies apparently targeting some visitors, is returning to normal as the Royal Barbados Police have arrested four men in connection with these crimes. The investigations into the incidents are still open, and the police have stated that they are still searching for other suspects; however, since the date of those arrests in late February, there have been no further crimes of a similar nature reported in Barbados.
As always, visitors to Barbados should be on guard against street crime and petty theft. Visitors should be especially vigilant on the beaches at night. Visitors should try to secure valuables in a hotel safe and take care to always lock and secure hotel room doors and windows. U.S. citizens who are the victims of crimes in Barbados are encouraged to contact the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy, which is located in the Wildey Business Park, Wildey, St. Michael. The telephone number for the Consular Section is (246) 227-4399. The fax number is (246) 431-0179, and the general e-mail address for consular matters is consularbridge2@state.gov. After hours, a duty officer can be reached by dialing the Embassy switchboard at (246) 227-4000.
Americans living or traveling in Barbados are encouraged to register with the U.S. Embassy or Consulate through the State Department's travel registration website, and to review regularly updated Country Specific Information on travel and security within Barbados. Americans without Internet access may register directly with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
