Eastern Caribbean law enforcement officers in the U.S. for advanced training

Bridgetown, Barbados, Thursday, June 11, 2009 – Ten law enforcement officers from Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean will join forty of their colleagues from Trinidad, Jamaica and the Bahamas at the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA), Roswell, New Mexico to attend the Advanced Management Course from June 1 to 26, 2009.

The Advanced Management Course is a challenging program geared for middle management officers who have the ability to move into the upper ranks of their agencies within the next five years.

The course consists of six modules:- leadership, criminal justice in global crime issues, terrorist threats, technology, managing law enforcement organizations and crisis management, building upon the participants’ prior knowledge and will focus on the academic aspects of law enforcement rather than its practical aspects.

The ten includes four officers from Barbados, two from Antigua and one each from Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and St. Lucia.

The program is fully funded by the United States Government and responds to priorities identified during Attorney General Eric Holder’s recent visit to Barbados.  It is part of America’s continuing engagement with its Caribbean partners, which will be further strengthened through the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative that President Obama announced at the 2009 Summit of the Americas.
