U.S. Attorney General to be honored on three-day visit to Barbados
Bridgetown, Barbados, Friday, May 22, 2009 – United States Attorney General Eric Holder arrived in Barbados on Thursday evening for an official three day visit.
While on the island, the birthplace of his father, Holder will be honored by the Government of Barbados with the renaming of the Tamarind Hall Municipal Complex, located at Horse Hill, St. Joseph, the birth place of his father who emigrated to the U.S. at 11-years-old.
On his arrival, he was met by Deputy Prime Minister and Attorney General Freundel Stuart as well as Minister of Foreign Affairs Senator Maxine McClean and other senior Government officials.
On Thursday night Holder was hosted to dinner by Prime Minister David Thompson and his wife Mara who were joined by specially invited government and private sector officials.
Holder was also expected to hold bilateral talks with the Prime Minister on Friday at the Crane Resort before attending the renaming ceremony in his honor later in the evening.
On Saturday Holder will meet with Caricom Attorneys General, host a press briefing and then attend a reception at the island’s Parliament in his honor. Over 500 persons have been invited to join in the celebration.
