U.S. Embassy Honors International Woman of Courage Nominee

Bridgetown, Barbados, Thursday, May 14, 2009 – Consular Officer Paul Stahle presented a special award to one of Dominica’s leading women’s advocates.

Former President of the Dominica National Council of Women Angelica Pierre-Louis was presented with a special certificate recognizing her nomination as one of the Secretary of State’s International Women of Courage for her work with battered women in Dominica.

Although Pierre-Louis was not among the top 10 chosen to travel to Washington earlier this year to receive the award from Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, she was none-the-less among a rare group of 80 courageous women from around the globe to be nominated for the prestigious award based on the work their do to advance the cause of women.

The presentation took place at the headquarters of the Dominica National Council of Women headquarters, No. 30 King George V Street, Roseau.
