U.S. Embassy rewards top CXC student

Bridgetown, Barbados, Thursday, March 5, 2009 – The Embassy of the United States of America and the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) joined forces to reward students with the most outstanding CXC results in the seven Eastern Caribbean islands to which the Embassy is accredited.

On Friday, March 6th an award of USD 500 and a plaque was presented to Justin Weekes, a student of Queens College who gained 8 passes at Grade One in last year’s CXC examinations. The presentation took place before a gathering of lower and upper sixth form students

Several months ago the U.S. Embassy and the Caribbean Examinations Council discussed how best they could encourage and honor excellence in education.  The Embassy and CXC created the U.S. Embassy CXC National Awards for Outstanding Performance.

The top CXC students in Antigua/Barbuda, Dominica, St. Kitts/Nevis, St. Lucia and St. Vincent have each been rewarded with USD $500 and a plaque marking their achievement.
At Friday’s award ceremony, the U.S. Embassy’s Charge d’Affaires Dr. Brent Hardt will also present a set of 50 African American books to the school.
