Media Development workshop

August 24-28, 2009

The United States Embassy to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean held a Media Development workshop for over 20 journalists representing the region from August 24-28, 2009.

The main presenter was News Anchor/Reporter for ABC 7 News, Cynné Simpson, who dealt with the Basic of News Gathering and News Writing, the Art of Telling the Story, Covering Tragedies and Disasters, Ethical and Legal Matters, Specialized Reporting.

Other presenters were Peter “Adonijah” Alleyne who focused on the subject of Advanced News Writing and Entertainment Reporting.  Photographer Ronnie Carrington dealt with Photo-Journalism.  Ms. Marvo Manning considered the importance of Etiquette and appropriate behavior.  Finally, Saleha Williams presented the subject of New Media – How to utilize the newest technology to connect with audiences

From the Embassy, Major Saint Lehtinen, of the US Military Liaison Office; James Goggin, of USAID; Consul General Nicole Theriot; and Ian Campbell, from the Political/Economics Section, all gave brief presentations to the workshop.

The Embassy also hosted a cocktail reception for the regional journalist at the Embassy on the Thursday evening.

The journalist departed, all eager to share and implement in their media offices much of what they have gathered at the week-long workshop.
